Accessibility statement

The standard we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This is the standard referenced by the EU Web Accessibility Directive and by Irish public sector guidance, and it is a reasonable bar for a commercial site.

What we've built in

• A skip link to jump straight to the main content.
• Semantic headings in order, so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
• Visible focus outlines on every interactive element, never removed.
• Menus that work with keyboard alone, including Escape to close.
• Text contrast checked against AA thresholds. Where our brand colours were too light for body text, we use deeper tones of the same hues.
• Form fields with real labels, not placeholder-only fields, and errors described in text rather than by colour alone.
• Full support for prefers-reduced-motion — if your system asks for reduced motion, animations are switched off, including the blinds that open on the hero image.
• Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320px wide, and that can be zoomed to 200% without loss of content.
• Decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology; meaningful ones given text alternatives.

Known limitations

We want to be straight about the gaps rather than claim perfection:

• The county tile map is a stylised grid rather than a geographic map. Every county on it is also available as a plain text link in the footer and in the Get a Quote menu, so no information is only available through the map.
• The reCAPTCHA checkbox on our forms is a third-party Google component and we do not control its accessibility. It offers an audio alternative. If it stops you submitting a form, email or phone us and we'll take your details that way — you will not be disadvantaged.
• Some third-party links from the shop go to external retailers whose accessibility we cannot control.

Alternatives if the site doesn't work for you

Reporting a problem

If you find something that isn't accessible, please tell us. Include the page address and what went wrong, and we'll aim to respond within five working days and to fix confirmed issues within twenty working days.

Enforcement

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can raise the matter with the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, which oversees equality of access in Ireland.
